Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Started in 2001, the .NAME universal top-level domain extension is the only one planned for personal web pages only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are popular by. At the beginning, only 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to book john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered 3rd-level domain names remained functional.
